Asian Eyelid Surgery

Double eyelid crease surgery is the most common eyelid surgery sought by Asian patients. Some Asian children are born with epiblepharon, where the eyelashes sit vertically against the cornea. Asian patients can also suffer from any of the age related eyelid malpositions, including ptosis, entropion and ectropion.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is the reduction of excess eyelid soft tissue, usually skin but sometimes fat too. Enough skin must remain so that the eyelids can function normally to protect the eye. Successful outcomes also impart a more youthful appearance to the eyes.

Ectropion

The eyelid margin rolls out, causing a red eye, tearing and discomfort. Sometimes the eyelid is also pulled down. Occasionally the cause of the ectropion is actually cancer. Surgery repositions the eyelid into the normal position.

Entropion

The eyelid margin rolls inwards, allowing the eyelashes to rub against the cornea causing irritation. Not to be confused with trichiasis (misdirected eyelashes) or epiblepharon (a congenital condition). Surgery repositions the eyelid into the normal position and keeps it there.
